Shearwater Sailing update!
Lots of exciting activity happening recently - here is a recap since my last post:
1) Announced summer 2026 trip to Hawaii and back (only two spots left each way!)
2) Coastal hop from Monterey to Point Richmond
3) Major refit started
4) Interviewed for the Good Jibes podcast
5) Shearwater Sailing now a full time business!
6) Next trip: SF to Monterey, May 14
1) After years of planning, in October I made the decision to run a trip to Hawaii and back in the summer of 2026. This was a monumental step forward for Shearwater Sailing as it represents a commitment to run the company full time, which I am finally able to do. After that decision, things began to really fall into place.
I had wondered if people would be interested in this big of a trip, but now with only two spots left each way, the trip is definitely happening!
2) In November, we had a lovely sail from Monterey to Point Richmond, enjoying crisp fall conditions and a spectacular view entering the Golden Gate.
3) Having the boat in the Bay Area positioned us for a major refit, which included replacing a fuel tank, the generator, forestay and furler, mainsail, water maker, refrigerator and freezer, batteries and chargers, and a host of smaller projects to make Atalanta 100% ready for major offshore passages.
4) In February, I had the honor of being hosted on the Good Jibes podcast from Latitude 38. My conversation with Ryan Foland about the genesis of Shearwater Sailing gives a sense of where we started and where we are headed. Enjoy!
5) This week, I wrapped up my day job and began running Shearwater Sailing full time. It feels great to now be dedicated to introducing people to sailing and helping develop their skills.
One big change that Shearwater customers will observe is greatly increased availability to charter Atalanta on Monterey Bay (7 days a week now!) and more coastal and offshore offerings throughout the year. Stay tuned!
6) And finally, our next coastal hop still has a couple of spots still open. If you’d like to do the run from San Francisco Bay to Monterey, Atalanta departs fresh from her refit on May 14. Join us for this fun, one day romp down the coast.
Thank you for following our journey and I look forward to seeing everyone on the water!
