    Kevin Wasbauer

    OWNER/CAPTAIN

    Kevin Wasbauer started sailing at the age of 8. Since then, he has competed in hundreds of regattas on the world stage and sailed tens of thousands of miles on yachts small and large, from dinghies to superyachts.

    Kevin launched Shearwater Sailing in the summer of 2021 and has since introduced hundreds of clients to the beauty of the Pacific Ocean under sail, in Monterey Bay and beyond.

    Steve is a USCG captain and US Sailing certified instructor. Hailing from San Diego, Steve brings a wealth of experience from his work as an instructor of cruising, racing and passage making.

    Scott Watkins

    OFFSHORE CREW

    Scott Watkins is an experienced sailor who races regularly on Monterey Bay, San Francisco Bay, and has raced to Hawaii. He also owns his own cruising yacht and enjoys spending time meeting new and aspiring sailors throughout Northern California.

  • Rosie Savukinas

    CREW

    A product of the MPYC junior program, Rosie is a competitive dinghy and keelboat racer who enjoys big boat sailing as well.

    Rosie has competed around the state and is a past winner of the prestigious Harvey Kilpatrick trophy.

  • Sherry Sybertz

    CREW

    Sherry comes from a New England sailing family, cruising and racing their J120. She now owns her own J Boat, a J70, which she races actively in Northern California.

    Ed Roehr

    CHEF / CREW

    Ed Roehr is an accomplished cruising sailor and the executive chef and proprietor of world-renowned Magpie Cafe. Kevin and Ed have partnered on many charters over the years from day trips to week-long excursions.

    For multi-day trips, Ed can prepare amazing meals that will be sure to impress even the most discerning palates.

    Chuck Drake

    BUSINESS STRATEGIST/ADVISOR

    Chuck Drake is a highly experienced entrepreneur, executive and business owner who serves as senior advisor to Shearwater Sailing.

    With a strong background in engineering, Chuck led efforts to renew many of the yacht’s systems to the highest standards.

    Chuck enjoys sailing in Europe, here on Monterey Bay, and wherever the wind takes him.

    Gilles Combrisson

    RIGGING AND COMPOSITES

    Gilles Combrisson is the owner of GC Rigging and Composites LLC, which oversaw Atalanta’s extensive refit during 2020-2021 and again in 2025-2026. Gilles specializes in innovative rigging solutions for yachts of all makes and sizes. His greatest area of interest is combining new advances in reinforced textile technology to build super light and strong rigging products.
