It’s Go Time!

We are ready. After months of planning and preparation, 6 intrepid crew plus captain and mate will point Atalanta’s bow toward the horizon and sail across the Pacific Ocean to our destination in the Ala Wai harbor of Honolulu.

For Captain Kevin, this is the culmination of years of work, a pandemic dream realized. For Atalanta, two major refits and countless upgrades have prepared her for this moment. She is completely ready for offshore adventuring.

In just the past few weeks, a huge number of projects have been crossed off the list. Thank you to Malcolm Morgan, Yev Ossipov and the Farallon Electronics crew, Gilles Combrisson and team at GC Rigging and Composites, KKMI Richmond, Bill Edinger and team at Spaulding Marine Center, Anders Johansson at Swedish Marine, Mauricio Niello, Austin and Ashley Book at Rocky Coast Canvas, Matt and Alex at Silkscreen Express, Chuck Drake, weather guru Jason Christiansen at Racing the Wind, Dave Hopton, Marcus Fragoso, Iggy Ochoa, Harry Kaufman and crew at Monterey Boat Haven, Ryan Foland at Latitude 38 magazine, and of course our Mate for the trip, Steve Skinner, who has gone above and beyond to ensure our own crew will have what they need for the journey.

Also big thanks to my family, my wife Erika and my kiddos who have supported this effort. Could not have done it with out this amazing village!

As we cast off our lines on Tuesday, August 18, we invite you to follow our journey as we post on Instagram @shearwatersailing and follow us on our PredictWind Tracker.

Thank you for following and see you when we return!
